Mom's the Best "Cooker" in the House!

Not me, but my mom! Or so it's told by my kids. Funny how when the kids want you to do something you are always the best at it. I'm inclined to agree with them, but only because I don't cook, not often anyway. However, according to the "Mom" magazine Morgan's class made for Mother's Day, I can make mac and cheese in under 30 minutes! Don't the things kids say crack you up?

Almost Vacation Time!

I'm gearing up for our family vacation. I'm so excited, the girls have never been on a real vacation and we are going to Florida for 2 whole weeks! I can't wait for them to see the ocean, build sand castles, and all the other stuff kids in Ohio just don't get to do! We will be going to Disney, but only for one day and it's time for me to purchase the Disney World Tickets. I've been dreading it, because face it Disney can get expensive!

I can remember being a kid and going to Disney World though and they were always the best vacations ever. My parents would always let us play the soundtracks from whatever Disney movie was hot at the time on the drive there. (My favorite has always been Aladdin) Then we'd get to the park and spend days between the Magic Kingdom and MGM Studios. (when it opened) I always loved the parades, fireworks, and the cool restaurants they have there. My favorite was always the restaurant in MGM that was made to look like the Sci-fi drive in movies. How fun is that?

I can't wait for the girls to experience the Magic Kingdom. It really is such a magical place. My favorite ride growing up was always The Pirates of the Carribean (air conditioned) it was very relaxing and I think the girls will love it. My mom thinks they'll be afraid of the Snow White ride, but they are going on it anyways because mommy loves it! (plus I doubt it'll scare them)

Enough with the memories though, I haven't been to Disney in years! I found the tickets at a fairly good price (thankfully) at a website called Orlando Fun Tickets, but I need to hear from you! If you've taken your kids to Disney in the last few years, I want to know what was your totally favorite thing to do? Help me make my girls first trip the best ever!

Ideas for Summer Family Fun!

I was talking with a friend of mine the other day about things to do with the kids. While they never tire of the park it, sitting on a bench watching them can get old after awhile. We decided that it would be fun to take some time out once a week or so and take the kids to do something different and maybe educational.

I found this great series of books called Kid's Love Whatever State You're In. They are written by a husband and wife who take their family out and try out new things in each state. (What a cool way to live right?) Well in picking up this book (for Ohio) I came across a lot of things that the girls would enjoy that would be fun for us as adults too! (I'll be posting some of our summer adventures here shortly) I thought I'd share these books with you all though, check one out at your local library, you'll be glad you did!

Organic Meat? What Does it Really Mean?

Have you looked at the meat labels at the grocery store recently? Natural and organic are words you may frequently see. However, you may not be buying what you think you are buying. Organic Meat is meat that comes from an animal living in a natural environment. This is an animal that's free of any chemicals that can be harmful to the human body.

Organic meat should not only be free of growth hormones, food additives, and artificial fertilizers, but to truly be organic the animal itself needs to be raised in the proper environment. This means getting enough exercise, sunlight, and provided with wholesome food to promote their growth. Looking for labels that say 100% organic can make a huge difference not only in your health, but the quality of the foods you purchase.

Kids and Exercise

The problem with overweight children seems to be growing each year. Physicians are putting children on diets they think are suitable for them to lose weight. Sometimes it's necessary, but a real problem is kids and exercise. Children aren't outside playing, riding bikes, and running like they used too. Fortunately my kids haven't had weight issues (although, it's more because their genes) but I have friends who have children who struggle with weight and I can't tell you how sad it is to see a child who can't physically do things other kids do.

Now that the weather is nice, I have been making a point to have the kids turn the TV and video games off and get outside. As parents monitoring a kid's activity levels are just as important as cutting back on the fast food. What's easy for us is damaging to our children and even if they aren't struggling with weight now they very well could be in the near future.

Set aside time each day that the kids have to do some sort of physical activity. They can swim, ride bikes, play tag, or even take them to the playground and let them go crazy! Instead of purchasing electric scooters get the real ones! They will have just as much fun and are actually getting some exercise at the same time!

As you know I am revamping this blog, and I want to do a health and nutrition section for kids, so send me your ideas! What do your kids love to do that gives them exercise? How do you fit it into your busy schedule as a parent? How do you control your child's eating habits? Let's share ideas and keep our kids healthy!

Do You Need a Website to Work From Home?

A lot of moms work from home. I do and I'm a single mom who gets NO child support so I know it can be done! One of the big questions that I run across though is whether or not you need a website of your own to work at home. This answer will vary depending on the career you have choose.

For example, if you are self employed, then more than likely you will need your own website. Freelance writers, graphic artists, bloggers, direct sales distributors, and anyone who is selling anything online will all benefit from a professional website. Anyone can make a website, but you need to make sure you are getting a good deal when it comes to web hosting.

There are various companies out there that offer web hosting services and the price you pay will be determined by the services you get. First, think about what you really require in a website. Unless you;reselling something you don't really need a virtual shopping cart. Some things aren't necessary and it can lower your cost to get rid of them. It also helps to review different sites and even read about their web hosting awards. If their services have extremely benefited others then they may benefit you as well.

The Runing Never Stops!

Is it just me or do your kids seem to HAVE to do something everyday? The summer fever is here and with less than 2 weeks left until school is out, my girls are feeling it. They seem to think that everyday we have to do something. Whether it's going to a friends or hitting the ice cream shop, these girls have me running like crazy!

While it's easier for me working from home, the nicer it is out, the less I get done. Partially because the girls are on the go and partially because I can't stand to sit in the house when it's nice out. It's starting to effect the money in the bank, so I've had to put a stop to it!

Sticking to a schedule is horrible in the summer and I know it'll get worse in the coming weeks, so I need ideas! How do you keep your kids entertained so you can get some work done?
